ouch. with a BIG swell in town, my homie BIRD (@birdssurfshed) hit BIG rock / la jolla + limped away with 12 stitches around his BIG toe. not a great white shark, but his surfboard leash ripped through his toe. following a rescue by "monster", BIRD rests on bench with mangled foot. before receiving 12 stitches, BIRD snaps a bloody photo of the damage. EWWWW ... get well soon, BIRD, + be thankful your foot didn't attract the following fish -- photographed by my pal, loren nancarrow / fox 5. in other BIRD news, looking for a new / used board, gear, or an awesome...

the cove: 1/23/10

the (la jolla) cove is usually a destination for swimmers, kayakers, and seals. today, 1/23/10, it was owned by some of san diego's best surfers. RARELY does the cove break, but when it does, it produces some amazing surf. today, it averaged between 12 - 17 feet. here are some pictures, i shot (click to enlarge) :

Martino) creates contemporary art inspired by the street, alternative, underground, and graffiti movements at the forefront of creative exploration today." some of this art is created on / around snapped surfboards. what joe roper can't fix, becomes an epic piece: currently showing (thru january 17th) at PROJECT X ART in solana beach, SURF SACRIFICE is an exhibit dedicated to C. Martino and his innovate use of busted surfboards. i look forward to dropping in ...
