JAWZ fish tacos started in 1998 as a roadside truck in makena, maui, catering to locals and tourists on their way to big beach and little beach (nude beach). a maui visitor of many years, a highlight of every trip was hitting the truck for a fish taco / smoothie after a day of nude body surfing. haha !

in 2003, JAWZ opened a restaurant in kihei, maui, and became a popular destination for locals / surfers. every trip, we’d stop in for a beer, fish taco, and run through their KILLER salsa bar. with a penchant for hawaiian – style meals, i longed for a location (or, truck) in san diego.

over the weekend (to my surprise), i learned one of the owners opened a JAWZ in leucadia (off the 101). with the same menu / set-up as the kihei location, (needless to say) the new spot is clearly worth a visit. not only can you grab “maui’s best fish taco”, but some awesome hawaiian bar-b-que … and, for those with lil ones, KIDS EAT FOR FREE !!!
