superbowl XXIX
watching the CHARGERS close out the 2009 - 2010 season with an eleven game winning streak, inspired the following memory.
in 1994, i began my career in traditional radio.
a $5 an hour employee at STAR 100.7 (recently flipped from B100), i answered phones for the morning show and appeared on-air as “chris the bagel boy”. yes, making dirt and carrying a ridiculous moniker was a tad humiliating, but the gig had its perks. for example, being sent to miami to cover SUPERBOWL XXIX - Chargers / 49ers (with a motorola cellphone).
simply, it was one of the greatest experiences of my 24 year old life. parties / celebrities / parties / dinners / parties / beach-time / parties … oh, and a football game.
the CHARGERS got destroyed by the 49ERS, 49 - 26 (steve young threw a record six touchdowns). then, after-parties …
(pictured below) in front of joe robbie stadium, i’m hungover , gaunt, and waving my $200 ticket (a weeks pay) in the air.
