sorry, san diego county fair, it will always be the del mar fair to me (nothing personal, i’d say the same about the murph and coors amphitheater.)
for many, the del mar fair marks the official start of summer (present company included.)
every year, the fair is themed. this year, it’s “music mania.” while i support the cause, i wonder if a fury of american idols, CCR(evisited,) and bret michaels is a fair representation of music and/or mania.
on the otherhand, i would pay grandstand prices to witness the following:
in addition to the music mania, there are plenty of (fried) reasons to hit the del mar fair, year after year, after year, after…

growing up in Del Mar, it will always be The Del Mar Fair to me, too. Worked there for several years, went every day, and never paid to get in. It’s different now in some ways (there’s no way to sneak in), but the same in others (it’s still the best place to watch people).
