goodbye, monty’s.
on campus bar to close at S.D.S.U.
when i first arrived to s.d.s.u., it was henry’s place.
too young to (legally) drink at the time, every friday, i’d mope by the outdoor patio, filled with beautiful, half-naked coeds slamming pitchers, and mutter to myself, “one day…one day.”
a couple of years later, the name changed to monty’s.
and, i scored a legitimate fake I.D.
after a week of classes, a friday ritual became a pitcher at monty’s. keystone anyone?
we laughed. we gawked. we graduated.
it was also a place to grab a beer before a show at the backdoor/montezuma hall: rollins band. living colour. jane’s addiction. violent femmes. primus. soul coughing. jeff buckley. to name a few…
years after i graduated (1993,) monty, due to a university mandate, was renamed a less-offensive, louie (at the time, i was opposed.)
regardless, the tradition carried on…or did it?
today, a la the PB block party, a beer on the beach, and a fire pit: well, let’s pour one out for c.s.u.’s first on-campus bar.
uhm, yeah,
i look forward to seeing what the “revamped center” has to offer…
